Judging
Susan McCulloch was judge of the The 35th Alice Prize 2008, which was awarded to Alice Springs based ceramic artist Pip McManus for her new media work Ichor.
She also judged The Tallis Foundation National Works on Paper Award at the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery (with Heide Museum of Modern Art director Jason Smith and artist Lisa Roet), in May 2008. The award went to Danie Mellor for his work An unsettled vision (the predicament).
The Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery Works on Paper Award was initiated by Susan's father, Alan McCulloch for the MPRG, of which he was founding director.
In September 2008, Susan McCulloch will judge the Hahndorf Academy's 2008 Heysen Prize for Interpretation of Place.
The Heysen Prize for Interpretation of Place is a non acquisitive contemporary art award exploring the depth and range of artists' connections to their natural and urban environments.
Sir Hans Heysen (1877–1968) was one of the first non-indigenous artists to engage deeply with the Australian landscape.
Today, interpretations of place wary widely in approach and medium, yet still echo that same deep connection.
The Heysen Prize for Interpretation of Place seeks to honour and continue this valuable legacy by providing a forum for artists to express their connections to the Australian environment, urban or natural, in the style of their choosing.
